I was amazed at the online portfolios I looked at this week. I personally have never done an ePortfolio, and my school has not used them at all, as far as I know. It's amazing to me how much things have changed since I finished college in 1998. The ePortfolios were almost exactly what I created for my job interviews as far as including artifacts, sample lesson plans, teaching philosophy, etc., except mine was all in one big binder. I am very anxious to work on my own ePortfolio during this class, and see how much has changed since doing my hard copy portfolio in college.
Andi - It is indeed amazing to think how much things have changed in such a short time. When applying for jobs in the past, I sent a "hard copy" cover letter and résumé with references and that was it. I am excited to have something that is dynamic with audio, video and other gadgets and links rather than something static - just laying there. I have to dust off the 3-ring binder and pages that house my hard copy portfolio and take a look at how far I've come.
ReplyDeleteYou're right about things changing. My school district doesn't even accept paper applications any more. If you don't send them your portfolio electronically, it isn't even looked at.
ReplyDeleteYou know, Andi and Bill, creating this portfolio has shown me how far we all have come in the last months. Remember when we were nervous about meeting in Elluminate? And taking our computers apart? Eeek! Now we're able to create an e-portfolio with all the knowledge that we have gathered throughout the program. If this is exciting to us, just think how we will be able to excite our students by using our knowledge in the classroom!
Andi - I love your idea of using the e-portfolio to take the place of our the portfolio we created in college. Do you think professors are teaching college students to put together e-ports instead of the paper ones? I graduated 5 years ago and they were still using the paper ones at UW-W.
